Programme Aim:

This course is an introduction to Nursing and will benefit anyone wishing to enter the Nursing profession using a QQI qualification. It is recognised nationally by Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland and in the UK. It provides a learning environment, in which learners are encouraged, assisted and ultimately required to take responsibility for their own learning. Essential skills in nursing care are taught by qualified nurses in our fully equipped ward. Practical experience in the workplace is also an essential part of this course. Students must complete work experience in a Nursing/Care environment.  Prior to engaging in practical Work Experience, students will complete both a Patient Handling and an Occupational First Aid Course. Successful students will be awarded a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Nursing Studies.

A minimum of 8 modules must be completed for certification made up of mandatory and electives, see list opposite. Choice of modules is decided by CCFE and subject to annual staffing/college resources.

Progression/Career Opportunities:

Graduates can work in a variety of healthcare settings as a Healthcare Assistant.  This course offers the student the opportunity to apply to Nursing Degree courses both here in Ireland and in the UK. It also affords the opportunity for students to work in a variety of healthcare environments as a Healthcare Assistant.

Progression is not limited to Nursing Degree programmes as students can also go on to related fields in the Health, Physiology and Science sectors.

Develop a detailed understanding of nutrition, diet and health by exploring how our behaviour can motivate and empower lifestyle choices. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary for the beginnings of a career in nutrition and health, or a foundation for further study in the emerging field of nutrition/ dietetics, health and wellbeing. Programme Aim:

This course is designed to equip the learner with the academic knowledge and practical skills essential for working in a healthcare team.  Its purpose is two-fold:

  1. It is a stand-alone qualification for employment as a Care Assistant/Healthcare Worker
  2. It can also be used as a route to 3rd Level Education

Experienced healthcare professionals instruct students in practical skills in our fully equipped ward. Health Services Supervisory Management Level 6 (Advanced)

Programme Aim:

This advanced QQI Level 6 course is aimed at those with a FETAC/QQI Level 5 Certificate, i.e. Nursing Studies, Healthcare Support, Applied Social Studies, or any other complimentary area to undertake further studies in Supervisory Management. This award enables the student to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to pursue Supervisory Management roles in the community or in a range of health service settings. Successful students will be awarded a QQI Level 6 Certificate in Health Services Supervisory Management Skills.

A minimum of 8 modules must be completed for certification made up of mandatory and electives, see list opposite. Choice of modules is decided by CCFE and subject to annual staffing/college resources.

Progression/Career Opportunities:

Successful completion of this award will offer enhanced opportunities in employment with possible progression into supervisory roles.  It will also enable the learner to progress to other relevant courses in 3rd Level. Opportunities exist for graduates in supervisor roles in the residential and non-residential Healthcare and Social Care settings such as: Resource Centres, Nursing Homes, Care Centres, Retirement Homes, Crèches and Family Support and Home Care Industry and with Disability Service Providers.  Degree Courses in a number of higher education institution are also an option.
